ICAO and FIATA Announce New Dangerous Goods by Air Training Programme

MONTRÉAL, 20 July 2011 – ICAO and the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) have signed an agreement on a new ICAO/FIATA Dangerous Goods by Air training programme.

“This is an important collaboration for FIATA and the industry,” said Jean-Claude Delen, FIATA’s President. “We will now be offering a training programme to our members backed by ICAO’s vast technical knowledge and regulatory experience. Our entire freight forwarder membership will benefit from this development, especially in such a critical area as the safe transport of dangerous goods by air.”

Raymond Benjamin, Secretary General of ICAO, commented: “This is an extremely important initiative for enhancing the safety of the global air transport system.  Freight forwarders account for a large segment of all shipments transported by air and constitute a critical element for strengthening the air cargo supply chain around the world. ”

The two organizations are looking at extending their partnership to include air cargo security and to establish a related programme for freight forwarders in the near future.

FIATA, founded in 1926, is a non-governmental organization representing an industry covering approximately 40,000 forwarding and logistics firms and employing 8-10 million people in 150 countries.
