The ICAO AIR TRANSPORT SYMPOSIUM took place in Montréal, Canada from 18 to 20 April 2012, in partnership with the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS).
This unique event brought together airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, academics and States. The Symposium provided stimulating exchanges on topical issues and future strategies with the aim at arriving at a broad-based consensus on how to address the challenges facing the air transport industry.
The opportunity to discuss emerging issues and to chart out the next steps to ensure a sustainable development of air transport were the primary objectives of this global event. It was particularly relevant to the preparation of the Sixth Worldwide Air Transport Conference (ATConf/6), which will take place at ICAO Headquarters from 18 to 22 March 2013. This major international air transport Conference is expected to discussed guidelines for a new regulatory framework in areas such as market access, air carrier ownership and control, consumer protection, fair competition, taxation and other levies, as well as economics of airports and air navigation services providers, in order to take into account the changes that have occurred during the past decade.
