Environmental Seminar
In September, ICAO convened at its Headquarters the “Fuelling Aviation with Green Technology” Seminar attended by various officials from States, and industry and stakeholder representatives. The Seminar addressed a range of subjects, including current and future green technologies to reduce aircraft emissions, technologies for green aircraft operations, eco airports, renewable energy, sustainable alternative fuels for aviation, and financing and assistance. In particular, the Seminar sought to highlight innovative and novel technologies and energy sources for aviation.
The Seminar addressed novel subjects for ICAO such as aircraft scrapping and recycling. With 12 000 passenger aircraft due to be retired over the next 20 years, the seminar highlighted that industry was already very proactive in this field with many pioneering recycling initiatives underway, and that ICAO could have a role in considering aircraft end-of-life activities.
