Global Environment Facility Joint Assistance Project
Through the ICAO – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – Global Environment Facility (GEF) joint assistance project “Transforming the Global Aviation Sector: Emission Reduction from International Aviation”, ICAO is developing guidance documents and supporting mechanisms to assist in the identification and implementation of measures to reduce aviation CO2 emissions. During 2016, various guidance documents were developed on the use of renewable energy at airports, on regulatory and organizational improvements to promote low aviation emissions, on financing clean energy projects for aircraft and airports, and on the use of drop-in biofuels for the aviation sector in developing States and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). In addition, ICAO initiated the process to undertake the cost-benefit assessment of the implementation of different mitigation measures, under the joint assistance project
