NOTAM campaign
In 2021, ICAO conducted a webinar-based notice to airmen (NOTAM) campaign to provide guidance to professionals in aeronautical information services on reducing the amount of old NOTAMs (exceeding three months but less than one year) and very old NOTAMs (exceeding one year) circulating in the global air transport system. The campaign was launched following the amendment of NOTAM-related provisions in Annex 15 — Aeronautical Information Services and the Procedures for Air Navigation Services — Aeronautical Information Management (PANS-AIM – Doc 10066) and media reports on the excessive number of NOTAMs in circulation that could result in the loss of crucial information and impact the safety of operations. The number of NOTAMs in circulation were reduced by 30 per cent during the campaign, with significant results being achieved in reducing the number of very old NOTAMs, which were cancelled or incorporated in aeronautical information publications.
