The Secretary General was in Bratislava from 31 August to 3 September 2016, where she addressed the Sixty-Fifth Special Meeting of Directors General of Civil Aviation of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC).
Her address highlighted the importance of Europe in the international civil aviation context and the region’s situation regarding air navigation, safety, security and facilitation, air transport and environment. The Secretary General presented the cooperation between ICAO and its regional partners in the technical assistance field and the ICAO EUR/NAT Office’s cooperation with Member States, and Global Aviation Development Partnerships. She also outlined the ICAO Assembly and the 2017 – 2019 work programme of the organization, the GMBM with regards to the Assembly, and the ICAO Business Plan and Key Priorities.
She also expressed the organization’s gratitude for the Voluntary Contributions and Personnel seconded by European Member States.
Dr. Liu also undertook a courtesy meeting with Mr. Arpad Ersek, Slovakia’s Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of Slovakia Republic, at which air transport’s contriubtions to sustainable development were discussed, and she met Mr. Frank Brenner, Director General of EUROCONTROL, which offered the Secretary General an opportunity to discuss cooperation between the two organizations.
