Civil aviation a crucial link in China’s Belt and Road initiative
ICAO’s Secretary General Dr. Fang Liu recently held a press conference regarding her participation in the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which will take place in Beijing on 14 and 15 May. In attendance were representatives of CCTV,
China News Service,
People’s Daily,
Xinhua news agency, and Sept Days (a local Chinese-language newspaper).
The sheer scale of the new trade connections proposed under China’s One Belt One Road initiative would bring very positive transformation to the global economy, with the initiative holding the potential to become the world’s largest platform for regional collaboration.
“I will be working to help all the countries involved in this incredible initiative to better understand how aviation development has a very significant role to play in achieving their related objectives,” the Secretary General told the correspondents. “Today, this largely involves their renewed commitments for modernized air transport infrastructure, so that they may expand their volumes of flights and routes and optimize the socio-economic benefits of increased air transport connectivity.”
“By continuing this work with the benefit of these new partnerships with China, together we can work to ensure increased and ICAO-compliant air transport connectivity, greatly enhanced trade, and ultimately a more effective balance in all States between the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.”
