Women in Aviation Multimedia Engagement Contest

Aviation is a forward-looking industry that connects people and business and supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In 2016, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) organized a photo contest on Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women in Aviation in collaboration with the International Aviation Women’s Association, which resulted in 91 submissions from all around the world.

The ICAO Global Aviation Gender Summit 2023, hosted by the Government of Spain and, on its behalf, by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, planned to be held from 5 to 7 July 2023 in Madrid, Spain, provides an opportune moment to hold a second contest inspired by this first successful experience. The intent of this multimedia engagement contest is to put women in aviation in the spotlight, provide an opportunity for aviation personnel as well as the public at large to engage on the theme of the contest, and create visibility for the Summit. Contestants will be invited to submit social media style multimedia items - such as photos, memes, clips, personal narratives – that relate their experiences and perspectives on gender issues and progress toward equality in aviation.

To this end, ICAO is inviting interested participants to submit their graphic or video files by Monday, 15 May 2023 by email to GenderEvent@icao.int. In return, ICAO will seek sponsorship to facilitate the following prizes:

  • The selected winner will receive an invitation and financial support (flight and accommodation for two nights) to attend the Global Aviation Gender Summit scheduled to take place from 5 to 7 July 2023, as well as a Certificate of Acknowledgement;

  • 2 X CAD$500 honourable mention awards will be presented to two additional contestants, as well as Certificates of Acknowledgement; the honorable mention awards will be announced during the Summit as well, with the individuals participating virtually;

  • Contestants entered may appear in ICAO’s media feeds or in its global campaigns and publications.
