Inclusion of Aviation in National Development Plans
Aviation provides a rapid worldwide transportation network, generating economic growth, creating jobs, and facilitating international trade and tourism. The most recent estimates suggest that air transport will continue its robust growth for the foreseeable future. To make this growth sustainable, continued investments in infrastructure, systems and procedures will be needed. Predictable funding will be essential to support the continued expansion of an aviation sector, which is safe, secure, efficient, economically viable and environmentally responsible. Predictable funding for sustainable aviation requires adequate planning and negotiating at the sectoral and national levels. Over the course of 2018, ICAO continued to advocate the importance of including aviation into national planning frameworks, including multi-modal transport plans. ICAO also commenced preparation of guidance material in support of these efforts.
