Montréal, Canada, 11 April 2007 It may be surprising to many to learn that up to 40 per cent of people experience some form of anxiety regarding air travel. Moreover, the number of people who do not fly because of their fear of flying, although unknown, probably represents a significant market. Little had been done to publicly discuss these phenomena until the first World Conference on Fear of Flying in 1996. The 3rd edition of the Conference, to be held from 4 to 6 June at the world headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization, in Montréal, will build on progress to date in managing these complex issues and look at ways of Getting More People To Fly. The Conference will bring together psychologists, professionals in the treatment of fear of flying and key stakeholders of the global civil aviation industry to address the related psychological and physical needs of passengers, share experiences and develop approaches to help people deal with their fear of flying. This sharing of knowledge, research and expertise will raise awareness among regulators and policy makers, aviation security experts, customs and immigration agencies, key industry stakeholders including airlines, airport operators, manufacturers and representatives from travel and tourism organizations expected to attend the Conference. Participants will be informed of the conclusions emanating from the 3rd World Conference on Fear of Flying and their implications for civil aviation. A forum will be made available on the permanent Conference website to stimulate further discussion and provide additional information on the subject. We strongly encourage you to extend this invitation to your membership and to any person whom you feel would be interested in attending the World Conference on Fear of Flying. We look forward to meeting you there and invite you to consult programme details, pricing and registration at www.GettingMorePeopleToFly.com . Note: Continuing Education Credit approval applied for with the American Psychological Association.
