The ICAO European and North Atlantic (EUR/NAT) Regional Office organized jointly with the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) a Workshop on Aerodrome Certification in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 16 to 18 May 2022. The Workshop was conducted in hybrid format under the framework of the Regional Project RER/01/901 "Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness" (COSCAP-CIS) concluded between and managed by the ICAO and the IAC.
Participants beneficiated from presentations on how to apply for, and maintain the aerodrome certificate in line with the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. Practical knowledge, experience and expertise was shared with 97 specialists from Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) and Airport Operators from 6 States namely Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. Moreover, participants had the opportunity to address several safety and aerodrome operations related topics including the International Standards and Regulations pertaining to Aerodrome Design and Operations, the Aerodrome Manual, the Aerodrome Physical Characteristics, Safety Management Systems (SMS), Wildlife Hazards Management and Control, Obstacles Control as well as Staff Training and Auditing.
This event supported States in This event supported States in enhancing collaboration and coordination between Certifying Authorities and Aerodrome Operators, maintenance of the Aerodrome Inspectors currency, smart planning of surveillance activities and allocation of resources, as well as improving Standard Operating Procedures applied by CAA's Aerodrome Safety Inspectors and Aerodrome Operations staff.
