The Fourth Meeting of the ICAO EUR System Wide Information Management Project Team (SWIM PT/4) was held virtually on 15 December 2020.

The second meeting of the ENAVSECG Coordination Hub Organon (ECHO/02), a subgroup of the European and North Atlantic Aviation Security Group (ENAVSECG) was conducted from 09 to 10 December 2020

The Twenty-third meeting of the North Atlantic Safety Oversight Group (NAT SOG/23) was held via teleconference sessions from 8 to 11 December 2020.

The DGCA Virtual meeting on ICAO COVID-19 latest updates took place on 7 December 2020. An update on ICAO’s most recent work on CART Phase II, CRRIC Implementation, Testing, Cross-border Risk Management measures and the 2021 EUR/NAT Action Plan to support CAA’s Financial Sustainability were shared.

The Second meeting of the European Systems Planning Group was held via series of teleconferences from 01 to 04 December 2020 and attended by 184 participants from 43 States, 10 International Organizations and one 1 industry.

ICAO EUR NAT Office and ICAO Global Aviation Training (GAT) organized for the EUR NAT Regions an International Air Law course in Paris, France, from 23 to 27 November 2020.

On Friday 13 and 20 of November the EUR/NAT Office held the Global Employment Survey (GES) Learning Sessions with the participation of its Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director and more than 90% of the staff.

The CAPSCA Pan European 08 virtual meeting took place on 11-12 November. It had high participation of more than 131 participants from 42 States and 22 International and Regional Organizations.

The webinar on "Recommendations on Aviation Security Contingency Measures during COVID-19 pandemic" was conducted on 05 November 2020 in Russian language as a part of a webinar series to support States in addressing the COVID-19 crisis.

ICAO EUR/NAT Webinar “Facilitation’s Response to COVID-19 – Strengthening International and Inter-agency cooperation Amongst Facilitation Stakeholders” - 4 November 2020

The fifty-sixth meeting of the North Atlantic Implementation Management Group (NAT IMG/57) was held via teleconference sessions (Webex) from 3 to 6 November 2020.

ICAO EUR/NAT Office has organized jointly with the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO) a technical assistance seminar on environment to support the Maghreb States developing their States Action Plans.

​ICAO and the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) have organized the "ICAO - IAC Safety Data Processing and State Safety Risk Management Workshop". It was a two-days' workshop (21-22 October 2020) conducted remotely in Russian language within the framework of ICAO-IAC Project RER01901.

The DGCA Virtual meeting on Sustainable Funding of States CAAs took place on 20 October 2020. The EUR/NAT Office has a new mandate to develop a survey, tools, financial framework assessments, model proposals, and best practices on Sustainable Funding for CAAs consideration and deployment.

The States and stakeholders followed up on the challenges imposed by COVID-19 after the initial discussions held during the ad-hoc ENAVSECG meeting on 12 June 2020.

The European and North Atlantic Office (EUR/NAT) held a workshop on Sustainable Funding of States Civil Aviation Authorities on 29 September 2020. The discussions focused on the challenges that CAAs face for their safety, security and economic oversight functions during these times of the COVID-19 crisis.

Nominated State Focal points and CRRIC users were invited to participate in the ICAO EUR/NAT workshop, held on 28 September 2020, to discuss the functionality of the CRRIC and provide information and guidance for inputting information.

The Thirtieth Meeting of the Meteorology Group of the European Region Aviation Systems Planning Group was held virtually from 22 to 25 September 2020. The Meeting was attended by a total of 152 participants from 46 States, and 5 International Organizations

The ICAO EUR/NAT Office held the EUR/NAT Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) virtual meeting on harmonised regional operational guidance for the restart of civil aviation on 17 September 2020.

The sixth meeting of the EUR/NAT Aviation Security Training Center (ASTC) Directors (ASTCD/06) was conducted virtually on 17 September 2020.

The ICAO European Regional Expert Safety Team (IE-REST) meeting was conducted remotely on 16-18 September 2020.

A EUR/NAT DGCA special session was held to inform Member States on the ICAO GIR and Regional Plan supporting the Council Aviation Recovery Task Force for the post COVID-19 restart, recovery and resilience of civil aviation

​On July 8th, 2020 ICAO EUR/NAT Office participated in the international videoconference "Priorities of activities and civil aviation supporting measures during overcoming the pandemic and after it" organized in cooperation with the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC).

​The North Atlantic Systems Planning Group (NAT SPG) met remotely on 24 and 25 June 2020 to address matters that were required to advance the NAT work programme.

The EUR/NAT States called for the EUR/NAT Office to organize a region wide exchange of experiences regarding the impact of COVID-19 on AVSEC amongst all 56 Member States, regional and international organizations and stakeholders.

The Data Management Group (DMG) of the Meteorology Group (METG) conducted DMG/30 through series of 8 video conference calls on 10 June 2020 and 15-18 June 2020.

The EUR/NAT Office outlined the steps ICAO and its regional offices have taken on COVID-19 crisis response to facilitate a collaborative approach for restarting air travel.

The ninth meeting of the North Atlantic Procedures and Operations Group (NAT POG/09) was held from 2 to 6 March 2020 in the ICAO European and North Atlantic Office, in Paris, France.

It is one of the duties of a Regional Officer Aviation Security and Facilitation to support States in their preparation for an USAP-CMA audit. At the request of the CAA of Israel and the Israeli Security Agency, an audit preparation visit was organized from 2 – 6 March 2020.

Paris, France (12 February, 2020) – The International Civil Aviation Organization, European and North Atlantic Office and the European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment met last week as part of the activities designed to kick start a new phase in collaboration between these two organizations.

EUR/NAT Environment Technical Assistance mission and ACT CORSIA, Rabat, Morocco - 6 to 8 November 2019

The ICAO IWXXM Implementation Workshop was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Office in Paris from 5 to 6 November 2019. The workshop was attended by a total of seventy-seven participants from thirty-six States, four industries and ICAO.

2019 marks the 75th Anniversary of ICAO and the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known more popularly as the 'Chicago Convention'.

The 25th Meeting of the ICAO EANPG Frequency Management Group (FMG/25) combined with the Sixteenth Meeting of the Network Manager Radio Frequency Function (RAFT/16) was held in the ICAO EUR/NAT office from 15 to 18 October 2019.

The Seventh Aviation Security (AVSEC) and Facilitation (FAL) Seminar for the States in the Eastern, Central Asian, Balkan and Baltic areas of the ICAO EUR Region (ICAO AVSEC/FAL Seminar/07 )was conducted 2-4 October 2019 in Baku, Azerbaijan

The VOLCEX19 Preparatory Workshop was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 2 to 3 October 2019.

The 37th meeting of EURASIA Expert Group and Coordinating Council, uniting Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) of CIS States, was held on 23-26 September 2019 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Twenty-Ninth Meeting of the Meteorology Group (METG/29) was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 17 to 20 September 2019.

The IE-REST is established within RASG-EUR structure to support the development and implementation of safety enhancement initiatives and activities in the part of the ICAO EUR Region which is not covered by the EU/EASA regulatory framework, in line with the RASG-EUR objectives.

ICAO and the Runway Safety Programme Partners continue working together to minimize and mitigate the risks of runway incursions, runway excursions and other events linked to Runway Safety.

The last training course Managing Compliance with ICAO Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for CAA Senior and Middle Managers organized in the EUR/NAT Regions was held from 9 to 13 September, in Tbilisi Georgia for the Georgian Civil Aviation Authority.

The main purpose of this meeting was to develop volcanic ash exercise objectives for the next volcanic ash exercise that will take place from 16 to 17 April 2020 called VOLKAM20. This exercise will assist in real-time events by reducing the workload of operators and air traffic services.

Workshop on Implementation of the New Global Reporting Format for Runway Surface Conditions in the ICAO EUR Region, Paris, France - 10 to 11 July 2019

The second ICAO Aviation Data and Analysis Seminar for the EUR/NAT and MID Regions was held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 8 to 12 July 2019.

The Republic of Kyrgyzstan resolved two Safety Significant Concerns pertaining to air operator certification and continuous oversight.

ICAO and the Runway Safety Programme Partners have been working together to minimize and mitigate the risks of runway incursions, runway excursions and other events linked to Runway Safety.

Ms. Hlin Holm, the Head of Air Navigation Services Section of the Icelandic Transport Authority was elected by the NAT SPG/55 as its Chairperson. Ms. Holm is the first female Chairperson of any of the ICAO Planning and Implementation Regional Groups.

The Project Team on Implementation of Meteorological Services in the Eastern part of the EUR Region PT/EAST/19 Meeting was held in Chisinau, Moldova from 29 to 31 May 2019.

December 7th each year is recognized globally as International Civil Aviation Day. Befitting this commemoration of aviation’s uniquely cooperative history and its incredible contributions to world peace and prosperity, ICAO’s Council President, Dr. Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, and the Organization’s Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu, have issued the following joint statement to commemorate this historic date.

A Technical Assistance Workshop, organized within the framework of the ICAO EUR/NAT No Country Left Behind Technical Assistance Programme (EUR/NAT TAP) was held in Tirana, Albania from 19 to 21 September 2018, kindly hosted by the Republic of Albania Civil Aviation Authority.

The ICAO AVSEC/FAL seminar for the Eastern Part of the EUR/NAT Regions was held from 12 to14 September 2018 in Skopje The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

An ICAO Workshop on the Continuous Monitoring Approach (CMA) of the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) for the European and North Atlantic Regions was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office in Paris, France, from 11 to 13 September 2018.

The VOLCEX18 Preparatory Workshop was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 6 to 7 September 2018. The Workshop was attended by a total of 45 participants from 18 States, 6 airlines, and 4 International Organizations.

The Thirteenth Meeting of the Volcanic Ash Exercises Steering Group for the (far) Eastern part of the EUR Region (EAST), VOLCEX/SG/13 was held from 7 to 9 August 2018 in Magadan, Russian Federation with 28 participants from Japan, Russian Federation, United States, IATA (including Eva Air) and ICAO.

The Interregional EUR/MID Workshop on PANS AIM was successfully held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Office, Paris, France from 10 to 12 July 2018. The Workshop was attended by a total of one hundred and one (101) participants from forty one (41) States from EUR/NAT and MID and nine (9) Organizations/Industries.

The 54th meeting of the North Atlantic Systems Planning Group was held in Paris, France at the ICAO EUR NAT Office, from 25 to 28 June 2018.

The Eighteenth Meeting of the Project Team on Implementation of Meteorological Services in the Eastern part of the EUR Region (PT/EAST/18) was held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 5 to 7 June 2018.

An ICAO EUR Regional Performance Framework workshop was conducted, thanks to the kind invitation from the Russian Federation in Moscow from 29 to 30 May 2018. The workshop was attended by more than 50 participants from Civil Aviation Authorities, Air Navigation Service Providers and other aviation stakeholders.

The Coordination Meeting of the ICAO EANPG Frequency Management Group (FMG CM) was held from 28 to 30 May 2018 in Vienna, Austria, hosted by AUSTROCONTROL

​The Fourth meeting of the MIDANPIRG Air Traffic Management Sub-Group (ATM SG/4) and the Third meeting of the Advanced Inter-Regional ATS Route Development Task Force (AIRARD TF/3) were organized, thanks to the invitation from the Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, in Amman, Jordan from 29 April to 03 May 2018.

​More than 32 participants from 10 States and 2 international organizations attended the Twenty-Fifth Meeting of the Air Traffic Management Group – Eastern part of the ICAO EUR Region (ATMGE/25) which, thanks to the kind invitation/support of EUROCONTROL was organized in Brussels, Belgium from 25 to 27 April 2018.

​The Twenty Second Meeting of the EANPG Aeronautical Fixed Services Group (AFSG) was held from 23 to 27 April 2018 in the ICAO EUR/NAT Office in Paris.

VOLKAM18 was successfully conducted from 19 to 20 April 2018 which exercised several objectives related to aviation stakeholders' response to two simulated volcano eruptions in Kamchatka, Russian Federation.

The first ICAO Aviation Data and Analysis seminar was organized and held at the ICAO EUR NAT Regional Office. It was a joint event with ICAO EUR NAT Office, ICAO Headquarter and ICAO MID Office.

The ACAC/ICAO Civil/Military Workshop organized jointly by ACAC and ICAO (EUR/NAT and MID Regional Offices) was held in Algiers, Algeria, from 26 to 28 March 2018.

The 39th ICAO Assembly adopted Resolution A39-3 (Consolidated statement of continuing ICAO policies and practices related to environmental protection – Global Market-based Measure (MBM) Scheme), in which it was decided that ICAO and Member States take all necessary actions in providing capacity building and assistance for implementation of CORSIA.

With the aim of improving the coordination and implementation of North Atlantic (NAT) programmes and projects, the Fifth Meeting of the North Atlantic Procedures and Operations Group (NAT POG/05) was held from 19 to 23 March 2018 in Santa Maria, Portugal.

​The Twenty-Third Meeting of the Data Management Group (DMG/23) was held in Algiers, Algeria from 13 to 15 March 2018.

​An ICAO PBN authorisations training course was held in the EUR/NAT Office on 12-16 March 2018.

The ICAO EUR/NAT is implementing a regional Technical Assistance Programme (EUR/NAT TAP) under the No Country Left Behind (NCLB) global initiative.

​ICAO EUR/NAT PBCS workshop was held in the EUR/NAT Office on 20-21 February 2018 attended by about 100 participants.

A EUR/NAT Technical Assistance Programme was established in early 2015 with the aim to develop and implement Technical Assistance projects.

VOLCEX17 simulated a volcano eruption in the Azores in Portugal which produced a simulated volcanic ash cloud that impacted the Mediterranean States as well as a large part of continental Europe, United Kingdom and portions of the Middle East.

​Another milestone was recently reached by the ICAO EUR/NAT Technical Assistance Programme (TAP) in continued support provided to Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) of Kyrgyzstan in improving its State oversight functions provided under the No Country Left Behind (NCLB) global initiative.

The second EUR/NAT Regional Facilitation seminar was conducted bilingually (English and Russian with simultaneous interpretation) from 21 -24 November 2017 in the ICAO Paris office. This seminar focused on the implementation of Annex 9 (Facilitation).

ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Office team actively participated in the ICAO Regional Safety Management Symposium convened in Tallinn, Estonia from 16 to 18 October 2017. Attended by around 250 participants from the Region, the Symposium provided a unique information-sharing opportunity for regulators, service providers, operational personnel and other aviation professionals involved in safety management activities.

The Second Global Aviation Cooperation Symposium (GACS 2) to be held in Athens, Greece from 11 to 13 October 2017, will carry a theme of “Managing Change: Building a Safe, Secure and Sustainable Aviation Community.” Aviation professionals will be able to exchange their views and discuss challenges and opportunities related to their fields. It will serve as a forum for regulators, service providers, operators and other industry stakeholders to meet and exchange their experiences and best practices in implementing technical cooperation and technical assistance projects.

The Sixth meeting of the Regional Aviation Safety Group - Middle East (RASG-MID/6) was hosted by Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs, Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, from 26 to 28 September 2017. The Vice Chair RASG EUR participated and provided a briefing on the RASG-EUR activities and achievements.

Under ICAO’s global initiative “No Country Left Behind” (NCLB), Regional Office EUR/NAT developed a capacity building Technical Assistance Programme (EUR- NAT TAP) to be implemented through Technical Assistance projects. The EUR/NAT TAP would be implemented according to the availability of funds and human resources. Specifically, EUR NAT 16002, PANS OPS Oversight capacity building project , has been developed and is under implementation.

The CAPSCA EUR 06 meeting and Technical Advisors Training (12-14/07/2017) was successfully conducted, in close cooperation with WHO Europe The meeting was hosted by Belarus (AVIAMED/Public Health Authority and CAA) and was attended by 89 participants, coming from 26 States and 3 International Organizations. Minister of Health and Director of CAA Belarus opened the meeting.

Paris, 5 May 2017 – Directors General of Civil Aviation from the States of the ICAO European and North Atlantic Regions, industry stakeholders, and international and regional organizations gathered in Paris, France, today, for its very first ICAO DGCA meeting of the ICAO European and North Atlantic Regions.

A workshop on Air Cargo Security and Facilitation will be held at the International Air Transport Association, (IATA) Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, from 23 to 26 January 2017.
