The ICAO EUR webinar on runway safety was held on 28 and 29 May 2024. The webinar was organized in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Flight Safety Foundation, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The webinar allowed participants to share their experiences in identifying and implementing measures to mitigate the risks of runway incursions and excursions, which remain among the top five highest-risk categories in civil aviation.
The speakers presented the latest updates on the global activities (ICAO Global Runway Safety Action Plan (GRSAP) and Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions (GAPPRI)) and also on the work performed at the European Union level.
IATA presented recent developments and outcomes from the safety data collection and analysis tools such as the IATA Safety Report and IATA Safety Issue Hub, as well as the IATA risk assessments on tail strike and runway incursion events.
The representatives from the Industry highlighted the latest runway safety priority areas along with the mitigation measures being implemented.
The webinar was attended by more than 250 participants from 35 States.
