METG/34, Paris, France - 17 to 20 September 2024

The 34th meeting of the METG was held at the ICAO EUR/NAT Regional Office from September 17 to 20, 2024. The meeting brought together experts from 42 States from the EUR/NAT Region and 5 international organizations, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), EUROCONTROL, International Air Transport Association (IATA), and ICAO.

The group reviewed the status of the implementation of the MET-related ASBU thread. It was noted that the AMET implementation has reached 94%, and the Meteorological Information Exchange Model (IWXXM) implementation achieved 99%.


Inter-regional exchange of IWXXM data now spans the EUR/NAT, APAC, and MID regions, with efforts ongoing to extend to other regions to enable global System Wide Information Management (SWIM) services.


The group reviewed the progress made by the World Area Forecast Centres (WAFC) in upgrading the World Area Forecast System (WAFS), including Significant Weather (SIGWX) forecasts in IWXXM format and enhanced resolutions.
