NAT workshop on integration of new entrants, Paris, France - 13 and 14 May 2024

A NAT workshop on integration of new entrants was held on 13-14 May 2024 in the EUR/NAT Office.

The main objective and outcome of the Workshop was to facilitate a dialogue on practical measures for integration of Commercial Space Operators (CSO) into the North Atlantic Region in a safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable manner.

The Workshop recognized that in the current situation of lack of globally harmonised guidance on CSO aerospace integration, there was an urgent need for a harmonization effort at the regional and inter-regional level, which may also lead and further facilitate the global effort.

The need for increased awareness among CSOs on the specifics of NAT operations was acknowledged. Such an awareness would assist in improving coordination from the early design phases for CSOs. Different ways and means for enhancing awareness could be considered, such as a short internet video and additional workshops under the ICAO umbrella.

The need for additional workshops was strongly supported to ensure the continuation of the dialogue. It was noted that additional participants may need to be invited, e.g. IMO, UNOOSA, NATO.

Further discussion would need to be undertaken within the structure of the North Atlantic Systems Planning Group (NAT SPG) concerning possible amendments to its work programme in order to facilitate the airspace integration of CSOs.
