With the unprecedented outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ICAO WACAF Office has been communicating and closely working with its accredited States and stakeholders in the spirit of Cooperation, Coordination and Collaboration, with the objectives of:
- reducing the spread of COVID-19 by air transport;
- protecting the health of air travelers, the public, and aviation personnel alike and;
- finding the appropriate mitigation strategies for effective safe restart and recovery of the industry;
Subsequent to the activation of the ICAO Business Continuity Plan (BCP) on 17 March 2020, support and assistance continues to be provided to WACAF-accredited States through different initiatives including virtual meetings.
To coordinate and share related information, a dedicated COVID-19 Webpage has been developed, containing comprehensive information including air travel restrictions and alleviations measures to manage the pandemic and useful links to ICAO websites related to Global initiatives encompassing Technical Meetings, Webinars on COVID-19 and CAPSCA activities.
Regional Initiatives on COVID-19 management are reported in specific pages with up-to-date information.
ICAO will continue to engage with all stakeholders in order to mitigate the adverse effects of COVID-19 and work towards gradual restart, recovery and resilience of the aviation sector.
