The GASP-SG develops and maintains the GASP, which guides the harmonized development of regional and national aviation safety plans, supported by regional safety activities coordinated by the regional aviation safety groups (RASGs). The GASP-SG seeks to assist States and regions in their respective safety, planning by providing the ICAO Secretariat with expert advice on:
- Global safety issues, including global high-risk categories of occurrences
- The global safety strategy
- The GASP goals, targets and indicators
- Guidance material for the development and implementation of RASPs and NASPs
- The global action plan, housed in the aviation safety roadmap
- Tools and guidance to measure safety performance related to the GASP/RASP/NASP initiatives
