SENEGAL - 29 April to 1 May 2016

 

 

From 29 April to 1 May 2016, the Secretary General was in Dakar where she, accompanied by the Regional Director of the Western and Central African (WACAF) Office, had a meeting with the Minister of Tourism and Air Transport, during which she expressed appreciation for the support of the Government of Senegal as host of the Regional Office and for its active participation in ICAO events and programmes. They discussed the State’s recent developments and improvements of aviation infrastructure and services to address the growth in air transport activities and compliance with ICAO SARPs, as well as assistance prospects for the region under the NCLB initiative. She also met with the Secretary General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) for discussions on means to improve and accelerate its implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between ICAO and AFCAC in 2010, particularly in reference to AFCAC’s AFI Cooperative Inspectorate Scheme (AFI CIS) as well as the recently established Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Security and Facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan) and the Human Resources Development Fund for Africa (HRDF). She also met with the Director General of the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) during which the role of the Agency and its contribution to the attainment of regional air navigation performance indicators and targets were discussed. The visit also included a meeting with the staff of the WACAF Office, a tour of the new Aéroport International Blaise Diagne (AIBD), and the ICAO/ASECNA Aviation Security Training facilities (ERNAM) and ASECNA Regional air navigation centre (CRA).
