Next Generation of Aviation Professionals
Under the NGAP Programme, ICAO has been working with States, international and regional organizations, industry and academia to foster greater awareness of impending shortages of personnel, to promote gender equality in aviation, and to assist the global aviation community in attracting, educating and retaining the next generation of aviation professionals.
To promote the programme, ICAO engaged in a number of high-profile international outreach initiatives, including the organization of the NGAP Global Summit, which attracted participants from 85 States, and events undertaken as part of the global Dreams Soar initiative, which promoted women’s participation in aviation through the encouragement of girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Engagement was also undertaken with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
Regional air traffic controller and air traffic safety electronics personnel (ATSEP) competency-based training workshops also took place.
