Advocacy for aviation
ICAO undertook outreach activities in support of the achievement of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ICAO supported the substantive thematic preparations of the 2020 session of the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and actively participated in the Sustainable Mobility for All (SuM4All) Consortium, steering committees and working groups. ICAO contributed to shaping the UN interagency report on sustainable transport. ICAO prepared a comprehensive response to the 2020 Questionnaire for the UN System SDG Implementation Database, which captures in depth ICAO’s strategic activities that support implementation of the SDGs in the Decade of Action.
ICAO best practices and successful cases were also included in the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) 2020 publication titled Good Practices in SSTC for Sustainable Development – Vol. 3 (2020).
The International Women’s Day (IWD) event was co-hosted by ICAO, IATA and ACI. The Secretary General announced the establishment of a new Joint Advisory Group on Gender Equality and Gender Equity to be composed of representatives from the Secretariat and the Council, to advance gender equality and gender mainstreaming within the aviation sector.
