Seminar on Green Airports
The Seminar on Green Airports was held in November and allowed ICAO Member States and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas on the latest technological, operational and policy advancements with an environmental focus which can assist the ongoing efforts of airports globally to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and assure more sustainable operations.
Seminar on Aviation Alternative Fuels
The ICAO Seminar on Alternative Fuels in February was organized to exchange information on the state of worldwide activities on the development of sustainable aviation fuels, lifecycle analysis methodologies and sustainability criteria, regulatory frameworks and assistance programmes.
Seminars on States’ Action Plans
A series of regional seminars in five venues (Brazil, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia and Kenya) were organized in March and April to disseminate relevant guidance material and to provide hands-on training to States. These seminars provided State Action Plan focal points and aviation industry stakeholders with practical input on the calculation of the CO2 emissions baseline and other quantification aspects related to States’ Action Plans.
In addition to these five regional seminars on States’ Action Plans, upon a request from African States, two additional seminars were organized in Nigeria and Zambia.
Seminars on CORSIA
To ensure the successful implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by Member States, ICAO undertook a capacity-building and assistance programme, including the organization of five regional seminars in March and April, plus two additional seminars to support African States in August, in conjunction with the above-mentioned seminars on States’ Action Plans. These seminars served to share information on CORSIA’s design elements and implementation aspects, and to provide States an opportunity to share their existing readiness for CORSIA implementation, with the assessment of further assistance needs.
In addition, a global seminar on CORSIA was held at ICAO Headquarters in May to further discuss the outcome and lessons learned from the regional seminars, and to seek commonality in terms of the expected next steps.
